This article may be proof that intelligent life has vacated earth.

...or just one more way for government to tax us all.

Edmonton already charges for waste water based on Water purchased. It would only take a stroke of the pen for some idiot bureaucrat to add a charge for processing rain water.

This is a city that, in order to reduce an unforseen deficit of $35,000,000, closed 1 recreation centre and chopped back hours on the rest, eliminating one of the most utilized periods(6 to 7 AM) saving $240,000 while proceeding with ripping up serviceable street and sidewalks on 118 Ave to be replaced by wider sidewalks at a cost of $3,000,000.

The city proceeded with the sidewalk upgrade while spending the fall and winter arguing over an idling bylaw. The bylaw was eventually defeated, probably because of public threats to monitor city councillor's and city manager's idling.

I do mean "unforseen" budget deficit. When city council eliminated the purchase of a second police helicopter from the Edmonton Police Service budget proposal last fall, a senior police official was overheard saying that they would just take the money from other areas.

Probably by getting the police officers to shut off their vehicles when they go into Tim Hortons. OR
Raising prices in the licensed lounge at police headquarters to compete with other drinking establishments.:)

You don't have to be crazy to grow palms in Alberta..... But it helps

They closed a rec centre and reduced hours on others???
Drop in the bucket with $35 million deficit.

But ripping up sidewalks put people to work (*grin*).
Wider sidewalks replacing perfectly good sidewalks doesn't make ANY sense.

Stoopid infrastructure projects aren't limited to your city.
Instead of putting in much needed dual delivery water lines (for nonpotable irrigation...farms, golf courses, etc), our guys opted to build a Roundabout at 15 to 20 times the cost of a four-way stop intersection.

Thank goodness Tim's has eliminated Trans Fats...the guys can barely fit into their cruisers now!

Cities will soon tax us for the air we breathe.
