July Palm Pics

I took some pictures of my backyard and palm trees this past weekend and figured I'd post them here for all to see. I always enjoy seeing everybodys yard and planting so I thought, "what the heck, Here goes " I will post more (unless you ask me to stop) but I'll do just 3 pictures at a time so the thread does not get weighted down with pics.

First up is a birm that sits in a great spot for full sun. I line up the palm trees and tropicals on a ledge for maximum sun exposure. The first 5 plants from the right side to left is a spindle palm, a coconut, triangle palm , meyer lemon tree and a sabal plametto.





next up is a picture from our covered patio looking out. On the left is an Ice Cream Banana Tree and on the right is a queen palm that is probably 10' tall. Between those two is a butia capitata. Down on the front row from the left to right is a Hyophorbe Lagenicaulis (bottle palm) Trachy Fortunei and on the right is a thornless key lime tree. No limes this year all my blossoms fell off in mid May (bummer).




Washington Robusta in the center and down in front from left to right is a small Wodyetia Bifurcata (foxtail palm), Trachy Fortunei and right next to it is a Key Lime Tree (this one has blossoms and thorns) and right behind it is two Wash Filifera in a pot.

First pic: what is that unidentified gorgeous palm at far left?
The coconut palm has sure done well for you.
Your triangle looks better than mine, but my three triangles have really burnt edges too. Is it from too much sun too early in summer, as some of us believe?

second pic: wow look at the size of the banana and queen palm !
third: Great size on the Washy, nice foxtail.

Beautiful yard, get lots of use out of your chiminea?
I got rid of mine at a yard sale, afraid I was going to burn down the neighbourhood.

Barb - thanks for the nice comments. The unindentified palm on the far left is the adonidia merrillii (christmas palm). I pulled it out and took an individual picture of it and it appears in another thread.
I don't really understand the whole burnt edges thingy, I had a bottle palm do that earlier this summer and it had plenty of time to acclimate. I think maybe my bottle was suffering from improper watering on my part and the roots were maybe too compacted in too small a container.

We never use the chiminea anymore. We bought this 8 foot tall outdoor propane heater for our covered patio and it is fantastic. Plus my wife never liked all the smoke the chiminea threw off. It could get smokey.

Yup, that adonidia is a stunner.
My bottle croaked so I don't know how to take care of them at all.
but my triangles were burnt to a crisp from just an hour of sun in the morning.
Seems that a couple of other people thought Triangles were pretty touchy too to get acclimated.

Ditto on the chiminea...looks good until we use it.

Man, I'm impressed with your palms and yard.

Great pics, your collection is similar to mine. I notice you have a beautiful queen there. I have one very similar, just a suggestion, I put mine in a larger pot last year and it has exploded. Maybe try a larger pot. Just my 2 cents, but everything looks great.

I have 10 adonidia seedlings that I that are doing very well, I picked the seeds right off the tree in Ft. Myers last winter. Hope it keeps up.
