I just potted up about 7 seeds of Butia capata. The seeds had been in the vermiculite for 1 year (!!!!) before they germinated. The impressive thing (IMHO) was that although I'll usually have at least one Butia twin (two plants growing from the same seed) this round, of the 7 seeds that germinated, 5 were twins and 1 was a triplet! Has anyone else ever seen a triplet palm seed? What will happen to the three palms? Are they doomed?

Each nut usually has 3 seeds inside (may very). I'm not sure what happens if you leave them alone but you should be able to move them apart when they get a little bigger.

turtile is correct most every Butia seed has three embryo in them. Once they sprout you should be able to separate them without a problem
