Is my sabal palmetto dead?

Post by MPLS-Palm » Sat Dec 01, 2007 4:01 pm

I transplanted a 6 month old Sabal Palmetto just over a month ago. In the process of transplanting, the seed that was attached to the radicle came off. The palm has not grow at all ever since then (I mark my palms weekly, so I know for sure). Strangely, though, the palm has not dried up its fronds (except 1 peticole that remained from when one frond was cut) although the frond did close itself (like going from a hand with fingers spread apart to closed fingers). Is it dead? Is there anything I can do to revive it? I didn't water it for a week and the frond started falling lower, but after watering, it stopped that. My thought is that it's just dormant while it establishes new roots. Thoughts??

Sabal Palmetto grow very slowly. If it is still green it is alive. Give it time and it should pull through. I always give my stress palms some B vitamin with their watering to help re-establish the roots.
