Pulled off boxes for the day. (perhaps a couple)

Since today is hovering around 0 I would pull a couple of my boxes of for inspection and let the palm get some fresh air... My small trachy looks great it don't think he suffered at all this winter. My chamaerops humilis did take some damaged on the lo fronds. (it's ok because I wanted to thin it out a bit anyways) I didn't tape the seams on my boxes and it seems that there was a bit of a leak and the fronds closest to the seams took some damage but certainly recoverable. I'll keep a close eye but I might be able to leave the boxes off until Monday only going down a couple degrees below for the next few nights.

Each of the 2 palms (about 3' high) had 12 C9 bulbs on a thermocube

My winter was certainly of the 5b variety this year. -26c low and -20c for most nights for the past 10 weeks.

the leak likely prevented fungus/mold build-up, which is a good thing.

Good work using 12 C-9 bulbs for 3-foot palms.
Better to use a few more than too few.
Obviously perfect for your 5b winter.

I used more for my Washies, can't wait to open them up to see.
Six months tented so far...the poor things.

Turns out at one point during the winter my small Trachy's Thermo cube crapped out so it was completely without any supplemental heat for an undetermined amount of time. And it looks as good as the day I boxed him up... I wouldn't want to gamble like that too often but after that winter I really question the need for supplemental heat... But looks like the boxes go back on today. Supposed to hit -17c again tonight... Looks like I can pull them back off for Mon/Tues give them some more fresh air...

Glad it looks good!
Heavy snow cover likely helped during thermocube outage.

Got to love Trachycarpus. Can't say enough good things about them.
