Is this a Mexican Fan Palm or California Fan Palm

I picked this up from a guy on craigslist here locally for $50. Guy didnt knw muh about it. It came with the house he bought. Can anyone help me identify it?

Guessing Washingtonia robusta.

Nice buy for 50 bucks...that'd be $300 here IF someone had one.

Yeah he was askin $200. But he was unable to sell it for a while so i talked him down to $50

I posted in on gardenweb and jim said it was a filifera. So thats good,i was hopin it was. I have enough robustas and heard the filiferas do better in this area

Yup, Mario, if I say a ROBUSTA, it's definitely a FILIFERA.

Judging by the trunk,leaf,coloration of petiole bases and the lack of large thorns on the petioles....

I would say its highly likely to be mostly/all Filifera.

Very nice palm!
I only know palms to genus so I'll stay out of this.
But W. filifera should be very happy where you live as it is quite dry in winter, right?

Yes we are mostly dry here in the winter. We do get some light snows but its mostly
Mild. Last winter it only snowed here once or twice it stays gor a few days then melts away

The tall ones? One of them is slowly pushing up a spear. The other im not sure...it might be dead. An if it is ill wait till next spring to replace it

They look bone dry,can you dig near them and encounter any soil moisture??

The soil is plenty moist. Im running my drip irrigation In that pic i just let them dry out for a day or two. But they usually stay moist

They are severely damaged then,they should be growing right now.

I had a much smaller palm........

and although it looks alive it was living off stored food,this thing was dead and I didn't even know it,almost like someone dyed the leaves green.

Well

I just cannot believe they haven't started initiating some growth-obviously warm enough there.

My Trachys with spear-pull have all put out 3-6 leaves except the smaller Princeps which
just started to recover and even it has pushed up some damage and has a big healthy
spear raising up.

There has to be some root issue going on there.

When did you plant them and what did they look like then?

I planted them in april they were healty when i tranplanted them from Seattle
They did get damaged from a heat wave and little water back in May
