Magnolia grandiflora '24 below' update
It is now confirmed. My magnolia grandiflora '24 below' made it through winter with ZERO dieback. All the buds are now swelling and it's beginning to leaf out.
It was wrapped with plastic its first winter.
First new leaf!
My newly planted large Edith Bogue is putting out a lot of new growth.

Agreed. Your 24 below looks like my 'Springgrove #19" did this spring, some leaf damage but not too much. My #19 subsequently dropped its leaves and it in the process to leafing out. And the bud that it had is still firm and will pop probably in July. I'm thinking these Spring grove plants are crossed with virginiana!
Keep the updates coming.

Did you protect your Springgrove #19 at all in winter?Paul Ont wrote:Agreed. Your 24 below looks like my 'Springgrove #19" did this spring, some leaf damage but not too much. I gave it a wrapping with frost cloth and a deep mulch layer.

Excellent, Tim.
Bet it was your considerable snowpack that helped.
