Great work, Tavi! What was your lowest temperature this winter?

Gorgeous plants Tavi.
Especially that Yucca.
A shame you had snow/freezing rain.
It was a good idea to make your Washy and Trachy boxes that size.
That way you won't have to build new ones for a year or two.

As you can see all of my boxes have a window. I'm in a relatively new development, and most of my neighbors changed their front door window. The one supplied by the builder is very simple, with the white lines. After I changed mine I did not want to put it in the garbage so I used it for my first box.
Once I got new palms (and more boxes to take care over the winter) I put an add on the freecycle mail and got offers for more than I could use. Everybody was happy that they don't have to throw them in the garbage but there was not too much use for them.

Very e-conscious of you! Congrats, Tavi.
On a recent trip to my area's garbage dump (a horrible place), I noticed scads of "little windows".
As I was poking around in that pile, a worker came over and said "no scavenging is allowed".
What a wasteful policy, when people would happily pick up old doors/windows for cold frames, etc.

I'm writing down here so I don't forget: Next year don't take the hut down for the Washy before May 01. The Trachys are OK, but the Washy looks terrible now. Lucky good weather is on it's way.

Tavi, sure hope that Washy comes around with the warmth.
Both of mine took a beating too.
They're nowhere near as "tolerant" of cold ground as Trachies.

Glad it's fine.

I learned the lesson: don't treat a washy like a trachy. Both Trachycarpus , a fortunei and a wagnerianus had no problem with the snow. Meanwhile the Washingtonia ...
