I love the desert architecture and rock patterned yards.
And those yuccas!
Strange that the biggest one is in Texas...what a mammoth specimen.
And to see one growing at 6,000 ft is amazing.

Weird to read one photo's caption about the "monsoon season with high humidity".

Also like the designer's idea of passive water collection.
Like you've done at your place.

If I could get yuccas to that size here, I probably wouldn't care if they didn't bloom.

It is cool that he's been to the Dragoon's. I think of how lucky he is too see everthing and work down there. I think he may have my dream job.

I have yet too see the full force of the monsoon season, but I loved it when I was down there and it just started. I love summer rain.

I hope too see yuccas here that size one day, or even half that size.

I love yucca blooms, but at that size I would be happy without.

Those are some awesome Yuccas. That Y. rostrata in Texas is just amazing!!!!!! I'll have to inform David that my Y. schottii has passed away. "That yucca is known to be hardy to cooler, damper climes, as in USDA Z 6 in southern New England."

I love summer rain too; it's rare here but welcome in any quantity.
Still have trouble imagining high humidity in the desert though.

Tim, sad your Y.schottii died, it was supposed to be perfect to your rainy winters.

Aaron super pics of Y. faxon. If there is a yucca that closely resembles a palm tree I would think this would be it. I have a 3 gal. grown from seed that will be planted next spring. I hope it grows up to be as nice as the ones you posted. Igor great pics of your Y. faxon and Y. nana. They will grow up fast looking at the professional planting trays you are using

Yes, Sir! I have a few of them. By the way all your hybrids have been germinated. I would not say all seeds but 20% of each hybrid. It's awesome!

Anything is possible, but if you could see it in person it is very faxon like, wide leather like leaves. It is healthy and they just seem to be growing long leaves.
He did have the coolest thompsoniana that has leaves longer than any rostrata I have ever seen. Very cool yucca. He thought it might be a cross with a rostrata? It was a big as his faxon yuccas and they had long leaves. I thought I took a pic, I will see If I can post it.

Tim, I have 2 of them in my yard. Thanks too you and the seed you gave me. The one has a twisted leaf from the reverchonii.

It simply MUST, Aaron, it's soooooo nice.

Have you considered a "teepee" made of 3 of those steel fence posts?
They're fairly long.

Just pound them into the ground on an angle with a sledgehammer, tie/tape the post-tops together.
An inverted yogurt container keeps plastic cover from tearing on the steel ends.

And...just for "insurance", might be an idea to have some old blankets ready to throw over the plastic cover when severe cold is forecast.

I was looking at it tonight and it might take more cover than I got. It grew much bigger than I thought it would this summer. I was planning that this year would be last year it was covered. I bet it gets covered. Can you tell I'm torn about this small decision.

Yes, Aaron, but just in case winter's not kind...certainly not worth the risk.

Even a big cardboard box--stored somewhere, ready to be inverted over it--could help it get through a bad few nights.

Until GW really arrives for our winters.

You're not the only one agonizing...I haven't even begun to plan for my palm "igloos"...last year's cages are now too small.

The green bush is Curlleaf mountain mahogany (Cercocarpus ledifolius)

Yes, you are right the faxon has more than one head, it has three.

The trunk feels fine, but I'm wondering if I should cut the leaves off later before they start to rot. May be after it warm up more. Sometime I think if I just leave it alone would be best, but I want to doctor it.
