Thrinax radiata

Post by Wes North Van » Sun Feb 11, 2007 6:26 pm

Steve, How long did the Thrinax radiata seeds take to germinate. I start some in December and nothing yet.

At 30C, had about 60% germination between 4-6 weeks, about 10% more 2 weeks later and still waiting on the rest.

Lazz,
If you have the room..... have a few things to send your way to see how well they do in your climate.

Thanks Don, That's my GH plan this year

Wes, Steve is a freaking MONSTER with seed popping. He was very kind and sent me 10 or so of these very same seeds from the very same batch. I thought I was pretty good at popping. UMMMM, I got THREE to pop and they have not grown a lick since popping. Steve is just the BEST. Use his method and let us know if it is the method or Steve :D

germinating seeds

Post by Wes North Van » Mon Feb 12, 2007 8:39 pm

I'll add some heat to the baggie and see if they germinate.

Wes,

Some heat should speed these along.
Have been using Sphagnum for a germinating medium, The ones that did not germinate at first were soaked overnight then put back in. this may have helped a little...

A lot of this seems dependant on fresh seed and just plain luck... 8)

oh yeah ..... heat

This is stating the obvious, but one of my New Years resolutions was to state the obvious more in 2007. Since I built my seed starting aparatus (2X4's with christmas lights) my seed germinating luck has sky rocketed. If you seed starters out here want to do one thing to increase your chances for germination .... provide bottom heat to your palm seeds. My seed starting medium stays about 82F.

ow old is the CIDP? I have about 40 of them going right now with the start of a strap leaf. I'de like to gauge them on how big they should be at a certain age.

CIDP Growth Rates

Post by Knnn » Fri Feb 16, 2007 7:57 pm

That one will be 2 years old this June. Growth really starts picking up once they get past 2-3 strap leave stage.
