What a stunning transformation from a few years ago, Jim.
Your yard used to have little tiny plants and lots of soil showing.
Now your stuff is so lush and healthy that it's hiding your front yard and porch. :bounce:

Holy cow! That first pic is the trunk cut Trachy?
That is so very beautiful, hard to believe it's come along so far after near death.

Admire the growth on the Princeps and Nainital too

Wow I'm speechless.
Congrats on the paradise you've created.

Thanks guys/gals.

The T-cut Trachy is pretty cool for sure.

It has grown out differently too since it's near death experience....
Stiffer wider leaves, tighter fibers and more tomentum.

I need to get something for some scale
next to the T.ferns, they really are stunning
in size and their coloration!

Having tried the trunk cut thing on a Trachy with no luck, I have to say, "wow!"
But those tree ferns also amaze me. Would not have thought possible in a good year, and this summer has been so hot.

There is some minor damage from the heat (and from me
not be interested in going out in it to water)on the T.ferns-etc.

They really have done well though and now that it is
cooler they are very happy but still way to dry here-
less than a half inch of rain in 2 months!

Jim, it looks you have come to an agreement with your plants about summer water supplying and winter temperature regime. :D

Jim,
Couple questions on that banana that is flowering. Is that in the ground or do you have that in a pot? If it's in the ground, how did you get it through the winter and able to flower/fruit? Fill me in!

Jim, what kind this flowering banana is? It looks pretty much similar to mine I asked about a couple of days ago.

It does look similar doesn't it?

I don't know and no one else seems to know either.

The bananas were overwintered in the basement, they
were both about 12' tall last year.

Yea the T.ferns have brought me a lot of joy and if they can hang in there with
no power failure-etc,they will be absolutely amazing next year as
some of them begin to trunk up.
The C.brownii is living up to it's reputation of being one of the fastest
growing,it has increased it leaf size(in a matter of months)from 6" to over 2'

Banana storage last winter-1 gallon paint can for scale.

Interesting you would say that Jim.
Felt the same way myself lately, looking around at stuff suffering from not enough water and sunburn.

We need it,you have to much.

I hope we don't have a dry winter and spring as well,
that could send the heat dome up further north than
it already was this simmer!

One season/thing at a time I suppose.

Agreed.
It's been such a strange year, cold spring, short summer but hot.
Can't stand the thought of winter yet, but protection plans have to be in place.

You're right Aaron...it's drudgery to get them through until the next spring.

My other Nainital is a slower lighter colored one
like yours-it has only grown 3-4 leaves this year-
if that.

Yes, the thought of winter protection for the ones we/I leave out(my first season with cold hardy palms) and the monumental effort to bring the others in the garage for the winter. I may just have to arrange them nicely in the garage to make it feel like my winter paradise!

Still, I don't think of all that when I find too good to be true end of season "deals" on tropicals. My wife asks me "where are we going to put them all?" and I said it's like children that you don't plan on, you just made due.

I found a Fiddle Leaf Fig at a Wal Mart for $6 (1/2 off) it was about 4ft tall. You can almost stand there and watch it grow, it grows so fast with HUGE leaves. Can't pass up a deal like that.
