Where can I buy Cold Hardy Palm seedlings for Zone 5 or 6?

I am interested in where I can purchase Cold Hardy Palm seedlings for Zone 5 or 6. I bought some seeds for some varieties that are cold hardy to those zones, but didn't have luck with germination. I thought maybe I would try starting with seedlings and providing them with mulch and or some other sort of shelter for the coldest months.

At your local Wal-Mart, Pick-N-Save, or some other supermarket that would have coconuts and dates. You could also order live plants from eBay.

Ive heard rona, home depot and other harware stores in the states have them. You can check out plants delight nursery, they sell online. I hear their plants can be a bit small,.. bu tme living in canada, i cant order from thre..

Palm seeds can be tricky. If you dont have enough heat for some types, theyll take years to germinate. IF you have to much heat for some, they wont germinate at all. The trick is getting the temps to stay consistant. For insstance, trachycarpus germinate around 20- 25C. Phoenix germinates best at 30-35C. Some seeds, like the needle palm apprantly do better if they are stratified before sowing (i think butia as well)

I don't think you will find any cold hardy palms at local stores of any kind
in Michigan.

I have purchased more than 90% of mine off e-bay.

I would suggest if you are planning on trying them in the ground to buy
larger well developed palms,maybe even the biggest you can find as
they will be more cold hardy than small seedlings.

If you find a good deal on some seedlings you can always grow them indoors(during winter)
until they are big enough to plant out.

Make sure you shop around and find out the best price you can find for
what you want to try,some sellers are ridiculously high compared to others,
also if you are going to order now make sure your weather is good for the week you order-
and check to see when the seller ships and their location.

Just remember that any palm in a zone 5-6 will need some protection.

I bought my Butia capitata and Livistona chinensis seeds from www.banana-tree.com. The seeds arrived at my house within ten days. Still waiting for them to pop. But the site seems awesome, they do have tons of stuff.
