Zamia Cluster
This Zamia floridana arrived in the mail today, looks like 4-5 growing points.
(Was trimmed for shipping, also a known female plant)
In it's new home, just need some warm weather now!

Steve, the cluster I got that was like that, I potted it up with my regular mixture, however when I did, I put a LOT of my cow manure in with the soil. I didn't water too much after planting it, but the in the Summer, I kept it VERY wet. I could see the yellow water from the cow manure in the bottom of the dish it was setting on (gross, I know). Anyways, it was one of the best growing things I had last year. It literally was flushing constantly. Before the first flush would be done, another would be starting. So my advise, use cow manure and LOTS of water this Summer.

Holy cow, look at that caudex size!
You must be thrilled it's a mature female!
With all your cycads, are you planning some hybridization? That'd be cool.
Great purchase.

Jody, Thanks for comment & advice! I trimmed it down to two fronds (might be a month before it warms up here, just wanted to leave minimal leaf area till growth starts) Lots of perlite in the mix, watered in well, and will keep on the dry side till it tells me otherwise
Wes, Nice growth on yours! I might have to give that a try.........
Barb, Thanks, by far the largest one I have! Odds are the other Z.floridana here will turn out to be males, now if everything stays happy, might be able to get some to set seed.
(It would be interesting to see what would hybridize with these, I've a lot to learn in the meantime

I started with Zamias in hopes of seeing cones within a few years.
This heat should be moving yours along, we hit 103F yesterday, maybe a little warmer today!

Dangit Steve, I wish I would have known you were looking for cones. Next time I have one, I'll bring it to you. I have had cones on my Pumila & Vazquez both in the last two years.
