Cacti Garden work
Started some work today on my cacti garden. Feels good to get something done early. Also planted a cactus today for good luck.

I will plant some cactus end of march or first of april. Right now to many nights below freezing like -10C and still snow on the ground like patches But they are calling for a high of 10C on friday but we are getting a powerful rainstorm on thursday with freezing rain. I have 18 cactus to plant soon Our ground is still a bit hard.Just to let you know on march 16 It might go up to 22C But common or rare. Im getting mine ready just landscaping on hard ground.
You both are lucky. After the near record snow fall on March 9th and the record snowfall on March 18th I still have about 2 feet of snow in my cacti bed.
I can't find much for hardy cacti here beyond Opuntias.
Do you have any suggestions for a zone 4 or 5 cactus that would grow to 2 feet tall at maturity?

You don't have to be crazy to grow palms in Alberta..... But it helps

Hi Allen,
There is a few cactus besides Opuntias that should grow in your area, like some of the pediocactus sp., echinocereus sp., and Coryphantha sp., and if you want ones that grow taller than 2 feet, try some of the Cylidropuntias "chollas"
Welcome again Allen

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.
