Yucca rostrata Community Pot?

Post by lucky1 » Thu Apr 10, 2008 11:17 am

Never germinated Yucca before.

Presume a two day soak?
Then into individual? or community pots?
how deep should pot be?

I have never soaked any yucca seed myself. I use community pots. I have really only used deep pots for elatas.

Jay

I have only germinated Y. brevifolia and Y. filifera. I have used warm water soak 2 days. Then a community container with vermiculite until germination. After that I transplant them into a 1 litre pop bottle

Individual pots IMO

Post by Okanagan desert-palms » Thu Apr 10, 2008 7:33 pm

Barb I would soak these for one day and then put them into ziplock bags between paper towels as 90 percent will germinate within a week. I say individual 1 gal pots each because your only delaying the inevitable separating a tangled mess of roots into individual pots anyway. IMO they will have healthier by not being disturbed as they will in a community pot.I never understood why community pots are used for plants for what will be a singular plant?

Allen,
Despite my old age (ha ha), I don't have any grandchildren.
Going to have to talk to my 30 year old daughter about her priorities

Thanks to everyone for their advice.
I'm completely new to yucca germination, and will try a bit of both methods because I won't have enough single pots.

So since no-one said how long it takes for them to trunk, I suppose I'll just put them in my WILL to you folks, ha ha.
