Rabbit Control?

Post by Paul Ont » Tue Apr 08, 2008 11:39 am

Anyone have some suggestions for controlling a large number of rabbits who continue to chew the leaves off my Yuccas (and palms...)?
Feral cats have been suggested, anyone have other ideas/suggestions?

Geez Paul, the rabbits here won't touch (or haven't yet) any Yucca. They have taken the rare odd nibble at some of the smaller palms. What you can do is what I've done on some other plants ... Stucco wire. It comes in 4 foot wide rolls and 50' length. I cut that down to a 2' height and encircle the plant so rabbits can't get near the foliage. Cage 'em in so the critters can't chew and damage prized plants.

Cheers, Barrie.

You can spray the plants with hot pepper extract and an anti-transpirant to help it stick to the plants. Once they eat it they'll stop.

Yes, I agree w/ turtile, hot pepper spray works well. There is also some commercial repellents on the market if you dont wont to mix your own.

If the pepper spray doesn't work, you can always use it to spice up your rabbit stew.
