Re: Palms
Have I got a job for you! although you're a bit late for most of it. I still have plenty of pots that need weeding and mulching. That bit there took the better part of 4 days and I probably have another 3 days left. It is rather boring and tedious work. I resort to regular beer breaks so I probably don't get as much done in one sitting as I should.macario wrote:Thats the kind of work I would look forward to do.

"I was wondering why the trachy on the one side of the greenhouse seemed to lean."
It's not a Trachycarpus ~ it's Chamaerops humilis. Why it's leaning I'll never know as my palms can't talk .
I already run a "low keyed" on the QT, nursery. No advertising, just word of mouth referals and repeats.
Barb ... what you're seeing is a wire webbing that runs the length of the greenhouse on each side. Once the 6 mil poly sides are opened, it provides a barrier against rabbits and deer.
Cheers, Barrie.

Barrie, I think the leaning trachy comment was 'coz of the beer reference
as though you'd share with your plants!
Oh yes, now I remember you mentioned the deer/rabbit wire necessity previously.
Its added bonus would be that plastic gets additional support in winter...clever idea.
Dean, I bought (a....traded) some great palms from Barrie last year...he has nice stuff, as you can see from his pic.
They should soon be out of the shock of living in my house all winter.
Once it's really warm and they're on the patio, I'll take some pics.

Mucho cervesa`s
Looks great Barrie. Lot`s of work ahead for you better stock up on the Cervesa`s. Are the older T. fortunei in the back of the cold house grown from seed yourself? I`m assuming the seed source for the smaller palms are from Vancouver island?

John ... the palms in the background are 2 Chamaerops humilis and one Brahea edulis (all 15 gallon sized), none of which where grown from seed by me.
I have some people stopping by today that are very keen on buying palms. I have a hunch all my 15 gallon Trachycarpus will be sold by 1 pm today. Replacements on the way for the future buyers
A great sunny mild day so I'll be outside all day (and a few ice cold beer too)
Cheers, Barrie.
