Cold hardy palms for trenton ontario 6a & 5b
Trenton ontario has thusands of yuccas growing there but only one person I know grows a needle palm in Trenton. It is trunked very little He puts xmas lights on it and wraps it with burlap possibly some mulch It seemed to survived 3 winters he told me. but I want to try growing a Trachycarpus takil. so far we had a 6a winter. harvey owns a nursery and told me it could possibly grow if protected. heres a yucca at MC donalds
We mostly have the same temps as toronto.

Its a great needle palm taken in july but It will not look as nice but It should survive the fourth winter. Every winter had freezing rain damage and 100 mph wind damage. We had a voilent storm with winds 98 mph to atleast 101 gusts. The dry cold does not damage it. it survived -26C with protection. Can I get one at the home depot?
If you want to buy a needle, may I advise "Plant Delights".
I bought a Hystrix (Needle), Takil & Fortunei from them. Very reasonable price. When I got my Takil, it was dry due the soil fell out in shipping. I called them and they sent out a brand new one.
Best cusomer sevice I have dealt with and the trees all are thriving now after potting.
I might advise if you want a Sabal Minor, I would say get with "Desert Zone" here on this board. He sent me one (I still owe him $$ for it) and so far it is doing just fine.

I went to the nursery but he said the could grow in this climate if protected. I will have to wait till spring end of march he said.He said they are rare but he does have some coming.Price should be 18$ for a medium sized one.Home depot he said will have unhardy ones. In our climate we have a long wait before the come.So I dont need to order seeds because he get 100 palms at his nursery only the hardy ones that grow here like Hystrix takil fortunei. I could order them of one of the sites you said kansas for not much waiting. When I get one I will let you both know Sabal minor should do good here and good advice
from both of you.I dont think they would trunk like Vancouver maybe 7 or 6 cm trunk. Vancouver palms have trunks 3 metres high. I dont mind dry cold I do know that freezing rain flash freeze are palm killers of not protect. we have a very stormy winter. Heres a picture of the storm 72 mph winds

Needle palms
They sell Rhapidophyllum hystrix out here on the B.C. south coast, but they are very expensive. I have a couple of them in my garden. I picked up a 7 gallon Needle a few years ago, but it was very pricey. The largest they had were crated specimens at nearly a $1,000. The place is Casino Tropicals south of Vancouver. They will be hard to get in my climate but they will cost less because of my harsher climate then southren bc. The palms in bulgaria should be hardy to zone 5b I can try to get a trachycarpus Fortunei. Last time The nursery sold 4 but I did not know those palms could grow here. But I should get a unrare hardy palm. I will try to find others. They can get expensive here to.Thanks

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.
