A walk over my way.(pics)

Today, Jan 21, 2008.
I thought I'd pass along a few photos from my walk through an area about to be developed. When you hear the word "developed" it's not as bad as it sounds. This project is leaving as much of the natural surroundings as possible.

This area is called the Foothills and is located in Lantzville, British Columbia which is on the eastern shores of Vancouver Island about 75 miles north of Victoria. At this point, blasting has made way for roads and the clearing for property sites. No homes have been built yet in the Foothills but 750 are planned. This area overlooks Nanoose Bay to the north, Lantzville and Nanaimo to the south. The British Columbia mainland in visible across the Strait of Georgia some 30 miles away with the coast mountain range clearly visible. The Winchelsea Islands are seen just off shore and are covered in native cacti (Opuntia fragalis). On future excursions I'll take pics of the native plants and vegetation... Enjoy.

Blasting is requred for road building here.

The forest is very dense.

The next three photos are left to right in order, since I can't post a full panoramic photo.

A very nice area. I am glad that they are leaving it as natural as possible.

Barrie looks like that developer knows what he's doing.
It's always a shame when seedlings are destroyed; nice to see he's leaving them ...
but 5 feet from the road ? :?

The red-stemmed trees resemble Arbutus...

Spectacular views, hope the lots are large enough to allow views between homes.

Bet those roadcuts are great fossil-hunting sites.
I'll be right there

Will look forward to more pics.

Hey Barrie..With vista's like that, I'm betting the starting prices are well over a million?

Its nice to see the developer has kept the awesome evergreens etc...

Down this way, the developers are just that..developers of prime forests and farm lands putting in place cookie cutter cornfield homes with no inspiration...

These will be big money homes/estates for the most part. Some lots are 5 acres, 2 acres and some are half acre and smaller. Then there's the cost of building your home !!!

Cheers, Barrie.
