Butia Eriospatha follow up
I have had 8 out of 40 seeds germinate so far. I just transplanted one into a one gallon pot a couple of days ago and it seems to be doing well. They grow very quickly and the one in the pic is already 6"+

Meyer lemons
I have grown successfully for years meyer lemons. I just picked one tonight and squeezed some of the juice on my barbqued salmon. They are hardy to about 15F but the fruit is destroyed at 24 to 28F, When I do get cold I just throw a comforter over top of it for protection from the frost, otherwise i...

zone 8
I don't know about zone 7 or colder but it is growing here in a wet zone 8. This is a very hardy palm once it gets some size to it. It is a very slow growing species but could do better in a hot dry climate. I am sure with protection in the winter and hot summers it could survive a normal zone 7 win...

What climate zone are you in? Is there any trachies growing in Kelowna?
I sometimes work out of our Kelowna branch and would like to see some palms up there.

Heating cables
Jay,
I work for an electrical wholesaler and we sell them. I am checking into what type would work best. I am not sure what to get yet so I am going to talk to one of my suppliers and get him to figure it out for me. When I hear back from him I will let you know.
Cheers,
Wes

I am undecided as to what trachycarpus I like better, fortunei or wagnerianus. I think I like waggies better when they are young especially when they have the curved fronds but I think a fortunei looks better as a mature palm. I am curious about your opinions.

New fronds on CIDP
http://community.webshots.com/s/image15/0/84/43/165908443FlJjrf_ph.jpg I pulled the centre spear out in April. I thought this palm had bit the dust but it has now produced six new fronds. My low this year was 15.3F or -9.3C. I just stayed above the low level of zone 8b. This was the coldest year th...

s. minor
I forgot to mention that as far as germination is concerned s. minor is the winner hands down. I have germinated sabal seeds and they are one of the easiest to do. R. hystrix I hear is a long process. I am also looking for some s. minor seeds. I would be willing to trade t. fortunei seeds for s. min...

r. hystrix vs s. minor
Dr. Franko of the University of Miami in Ohio has done a study on some of the most cold hardy palms. His experiments definetly proved that r. hystrix was indeed more cold hardy than s. minor. S. Minor died when exposed to -15F. They suffered 4% frond damage at +10F. Above that temperature they suffe...

Just want to say hi from Canada
Found your message board today. Hope more people find out about it! I am a member of the PNW Palm and exotic plant society. I have numerous palms that I am experimenting with here in a zone 8b climate. Up until last year we had experienced zone 9a or 9b winters but we had three cold nights in early ...
