They appear to be bush hollyhocks, Alcea rosea. They usually don't bloom the first year though and grow 5-6' tall in my yard.. Another possibility is a variety of Mallow, Malva alcea. Some of these bloom the first year and most don't grow above 3'. I have never seen a yellow Mallow. I like the color...

That is the same color as one of the laundry tubs that I got for my bananas. :)

They are recovering nicely and look a lot better than my bananas.

Right now I don't plan on heating it through the winter. I may heat it in the fall and next spring to maintain the bananas before I bring them in for the winter and after I take them out in the spring.

I had them in the basement under light 12-16 hrs per day. Basement temp was about 65-68*. That could be the problem. I'll have to start a new batch outside and hope to overwinter them in the basement. It sucks when the weather buggers the plants up. I had my bananas shredded when we got winds gustin...

When I pulled the remains of the Papaya plants from their pots I found that they had almost no root systems at all. Despite being 1 plant per pot in all but 1 pot, which had 2, the root systems were no deeper than than 1/2" and had a diameter of 1" or less. Any Idea why this happened? I ha...

It has been slow going as my arm keeps bleeding every time I use it.

Tough winter

I lost both chollas, my big beavertail cactus and an opuntia fragilis. I had started pads from my O. polycanthus and O. fragilis last summer and they all died. All that I have left is a 2 year old Beavertail cactus, an O. polycanthus and a bunch of hens and chicks. The 2 Yuccas came back from their ...

Brushfire Season

We have pretty much missed spring this year. The cold snap and snow in April meant a late spring. No spring rain together with strong winds dried everything out, leaving deep cracks in the soil. Now the winds and near record heat have brought on Brushfire season 3 -4 weeks early. We won't be setting...

Nah.

You would just have to buy a gasoline engine drop it in and convert it.

Actually, I don't know if you would need a conversion kit on any vehicle. It just sounded plausible.

I did some quick calculations based on the information provided in the article. The cost of feed stock after the subsidy would result in a cost of $2.10 to $4.20 per gallon. There is no allowance for other costs, electricity, water included in these prices. Then your vehicle would have to be convert...

Will do, Barrie. It will be a while as I cut my arm-10 stitches-with the angle grinder yesterday afternoon. Drove myself to the hospital and waited 5 1/2 hours to get stitched up. The only thing that they did in the interim was wrap more bandages around the wound every time the blood leaked through....

It was forecast at -3 Barrie. We don't put any bedding plants into the ground until about the May 24th long weekend because of the chance of frost.

But my Greenhouse is on order and I will be getting my garage back. All I am getting is a 6' x 8' double wall aluminum framed unit.

No. It used to be called Klondike Days. It's an expensive circus the same as the Calgary Stampede except that Calgary has a rodeo and we have a Gran Prix Race.

We won't get any snow but the temps will fall to -3*C. I have my Bananas and bedding plants in the garage...

2 of mine are just starting to form buds. The third has about 30% leaf damage while the fourth has 100% leaf kill. It is too early to know if the one will bloom or if the other will survive.
