They look pretty ragged. It was very windy and cold. I guess they'll survive though. I'm going to try and take some pics in my area soon. That would be great :D Here are a few from around the vicinity. I'm not much of a photographer so please excuse any blurriness. http://i232.photobucket.com/album...

Heat Mat suggestions?

Does anyone here have ideals for cheap heat mats? I purchased one awhile back and it was about $40. Would somehow using heating cables be an alternative?

I didn't notice that anyone covered there palms. There are some that must be over two stories high so it would be hard to do. Other people must not be concerned about them.

I really thought we would have a break in the weather after last year.

Sago took a little too much cold.

My sagos took a little too much cold. Especially the ones in pots. I didn't water them before the front as adequately as I should have. Hasn't been the first time maybe we'll be the last.

A few trachycarpus fortunei growing under some bamboo

Here's a few trachycarpus fortunei I have planted under some bamboo. At the time I was lacking a better space to plant them. How far should I space them out? Thanks Laaz, hopefully I can get a few flushes out of them.

Rhapsis seed wanted

Hello All:

Anybody know of anyone that might have some Rhapsis seed. I may be able to harvest some Sabal minor seeds that are still on some palms outside before they fall to the ground. I just don't want to have to order a bunch of seeds to get some.

Thanks for looking,
Dean

Thanks, Jody, I think your right. I just hated loosing the luscious growth. Kansas, these guys are in some bigger pots (like 25-gallon) than I care to move really. Plus I don't have a greenhouse unfortunately and luckily we usually don't get as cold as you all do further North. Thanks for the info I...

Thanks Barb! No, I haven't tried the Epsom salt on the palms yet. Most of my collection died. Although I do have a few palms and most all cycads.

I'll see if the bat guano does any good. I really like the Rhapis though. So I'm hoping it does well. :)

I put some bat guano on my Rhapis. It was a little high in nitrogen and lower in others. It's like 11-1-1. I'm hoping to get some green growth; they grow so slowly. :)

Steve,

No, not really any other palms of seed bearing age. There are some of the I guess Palmetto type palms a couple of houses down and on the block behind us. This was really a large cluster. Unless when I cut the grass some got thrown in that area for some reason.

Regards,
Dean

Just had a bunch of wild palms sprout!

Hey Gang: I had a leak in a above ground pool and lost much water. Immediately after I noticed I had a couple of hundred palm sprouts coming up. From where the water flowed towards some bushes. I would suppose they are the Dwarf Palmetto's that I have growing here. Unless they are something else bro...

I have had excellent results with compost piles that were derived of mostly leaf litter and compost. I used to obtain raked bagged leaves via the popular web site Craig's List. I even acquired a certain amount of manure from local horse and cow raisers. Of course it was a bit of work and a little me...
