Funny how things work out,no I didn't want or need to start a business, but you plant 100 seeds thinking you might get 10 to pop and you get 90 to germinate, and after several different varieties you got so many plants you don't know what to do with them all. No I haven't even thought about getting in...

Barb, Its the same here, nurseries truck in there annuals, and with perrinals,I notice there taking cuttings and growing them on and not as ordering them as much as they use to,so you tend to get smaller one gallon plants now, than you use to get, which in turn might make them more hardier anyway than b...

Nurseries here in Wichita,Ks

Quite a few of the Ma&Pa nurseries that have been in town for many years have already gone under in the last couple of years, cannot compete with big box stores. There is about 5 left, that are doing good, but they do quite a business with local businesses as well, where the box store are mainly for...

Erik, Sounds like with that much insulation over it,you should be just fine. Mine was about your size or a little larger,my thinking if I just kept the crown dry,I would be fine,so I just covered it with plastic and threw a quilt over it,but the cold did it in anyway, funny thing it looked good all t...

Hi Barb, Yes the wind here has been really terrible, several days of constant 45mph,and it makes my palm hut really sway back and fourth,I used regular heavy duty plastic 6 mil, instead of greenhouse plastic, and the wind has ripped in a couple places,so I had to throw a tarp over it,to make it to spri...

Thanks everyone Well its 14* outside now,and it suppose to dip to 9*,and it is 36*inside there now,so if the the heat tape comes on at 40* the trunk should be warm, the wind is up and blowing,so I'm guessing there is a pretty cold wind chill out there now. 59* in my big greenhouse now,so I might need...

Erik, Last year I tried to over winter a pindo about same size as yours, had it cover with just plastic,it looked great all winter, stayed just as green as it was when I covered it,just like my washy robusta, except without any heat source, and when I removed the plastic come spring,I had spear pull and...

Its has been about 40 days without any rain or snow, and with todays temperature about 70* today,I thought,I'd better do some watering. First I wanted to check the soil temperature. We have had single digit temperatures twice so far this fall and winter, but the ground hasn't froze over yet. <a href=&...

Coco's

Yes Erik,please try again.
I have quite a few large palms, but the Coco is the ultimate palm to grow,I really enjoy just looking at its leaves blowing in the wind, then I daydream for a second or two, that I'm on a Island somewhere!!!!!
Then reality comes back, and I'm in Kansas again!!!LOL

Coco's

Actually they are really easy to grow, just need southern window exposure, mist daily, and keep a fan on them.just a gentle breeze during the day, water every couple weeks, only if the top inch is dry. I keep night time temps above 65*,during the winter. Its best to keep them in dappled shade while outsi...

I believe the Majesty palms are the easiest to grow,I keep them fairly dry ,but mist daily, and it works for me.

I'd throw something over the queen leaves, just to keep cold from settling in the crown, the light helps but something over her keep some heat inside next to the crown, probably will fry the leaves anyway, being that cold.

Shake it

Shake it if you hear water inside, your good to go,if it was on the ground more likely it fell on it's on,it needs the liquid on the inside for germination to take place. The outside husk is still on it,you'll be just fine. Keep it in the most warmest and humid place you have, keep the soil just moist...

If he got it off the ground, you have a better chance in getting it to pop!
You got nothing to lose either way.

I'll have to get some new pics,I have lots of seedlings from the ones I planted this summer, around August.
But a lot just planted at Turkey Day.
I also have just planted a bunch of pink bananas and candlestick bush and a few Mexican bird of paradise, also known as Pride of Barbados.
