What size are your palmettos,wouldn't think they could make it outdoors that far north without protection with heat source.
How long have you had them in the ground,I have some 2 yr old seedlings I was thinking about planting here.

Very nice looking palms! Looks like next year,your gonna have to lay them down to overwinter,or cut hole in ceiling,and put a light in the attic!!!! Or do what I did plant them in the ground. Right now I have a coconut,2,Majesty and a Triangle palm all over 10 ft,and my tallest greenhouse is only 12...

Thats the info I was looking for,I want to know how cold it is actually in the protection area or at the growing point. That does bring up a good question,don't you think the higher up gives the coldest temperature? I know in my greenhouse,may read 70* at 4ft up from the floor,but at 10ft up it will read 65*,now when the sun is shining it will read 80* up there and still 70* at the 4ft level,so on the cold cloudy day...

Great looking palms Barb.
I sometimes use the same size cups,I prefer the Styrofoam ones but use the hard plastic too,I take scissors and cut down the sides,usually the roots are circling the bottom,and it pops right out.

About 30 hr straight drive if you and your wife change off every 4 hours,48 hours of good digging,30 hrs drive back,3 hr drive to my house and then 3 hrs back to yours,good week off from work and you can do all of that!!!LOL

I had to get rid of my biggest one this summer,same thing,I even washed off all the soil and repotted it but by fall it was a goner,I thought maybe it was what they call black weevil,it went fast!
I got a bunch of seeds recently and they have popped and growing good.

I need to pot up a lot of palms,but all my greenhouses are full,and no place to put any more.
I have many more palms still waiting to pop.
Just had a dozen date palms pop this week,and they really grow fast right out of the seed!

Thanks Cameron. Erik I have a gas heater in there,and the bubble wrap is over the greenhouse completely,which really does a fantastic job holding in the heat,it did get down to 54* in the least night.and the thermometer is next to the door,where it gets a little cooler,in the middle of the greenhous...

Were these all new this year?
Just went and checked my palm hut,said 30*,lowest its ever been,I hope my heat tapes are working!!!
Windchill is -2 out there now.

Been hardy for me,without any mulching,it spreads fast by underground runners,had go to flower only once in 4 yrs,only to have the first freeze do it under before it had a chance to even open,wish I could find a root of the larger variety.

Well fox news just reported that they it was a bacteria just killing the drum fish. And the birds were spooked from fireworks the other nite and just started flying into things,because they don't normally fly at night and just were confused and starting flying into things,sounds a little fishy to me...
