I watered mine constantly this summer, but you are very right about the heat. My non-cold hardys loved it but my T.F's didn't. If you get a sec, go to photo gallery and check out my trip to Mexico. Lots of palms. Pretty cool.

My 2 bigger T. fortunei's have got their first heavy frost. Overnight temp was -3C. My largest musa got it too so I assume it's done now. I guess we will see if the roomers about the T.F are true. Hope this frost doesn't hurt them, time will tell. http://www.postimage.org/aV1TMY80.jpg http://www.pos...

O I know. I have been watching the weather network as does everyone. I don't mind the cooler weather of fall, it's the COLD of winter I hate. The cooler air is refreshing but anything under 15C is too cold for me. I am off to Mexico for this cold snap. My palms are all loaded up ready to go to the g...

I was looking at the temps in the ticker tape at the top of this page., I noticed Vegas is at 16C...Currently it's 24 here and 29 with the humidex. In a few months when its -10 here and 25 in Vegas I guess I will be a little more jealous. Lookin cool out west. What is west WILL come east!! but you c...

I planted a 3.5 foot tall trachy fortunei in April. I have the same question. I am thinking a clear tarp with rope light (be carful with these, trust me) around the trunk and a light buld. If anyone thinks I should be adding more let me know.

I think I live in the wrong part of Canada. I guess the trachycarpus love damp weather. They seem to thrive there. I have seen them in Scotland as well, same kinda weather. I have one planted out front and I am going to see how it does this winter with only a clear tarp and a light bulb.
