Okanagan desert-palms, I have placed it outside on my front deck (facing south) in it's pot for now. I will leave it out there for the next few days and nights to get it used to the outside. I don' t really have shady spot to put it. Tomorrow is supposed to be party cloudy to mostly cloudy and a hig...

PhilMusa,

I have "accidentally" cut down some of my wife's lilac's..ooops!!! (hehehe). Anyway, I am going to be putting it about 5 feet from the house, facing south in a wind sheltered area. It seems to always be warm there even when its cold outside so I figure its a good place.

Cali-wanna-b, I am installing a clever earth heating system. It's difficult to explain but my buddy who is a farmer has the system (on a much bigger scale) in his fields. So, basically you take plastic pipe make a spiral column just a bit bigger than the current root base, run heat tube (in my case ...

T. Fortunei outside?

Hello, I have 2 T. Fortunei about a year old. I am wondering if they should be outside yet? I have been told they should be. The weather is about 4-8 Celsius during the day and about -1 to -4 at night. It is pretty damp and rainy as well. I have had them inside since I got them but was told they wou...

PhilMusa, I have visited Botanix last week. I bought a 15 gal t. fortunei. There were a lot of very nice palms and tropicals there. I could have walked around all day. Maybe set up a lawn chair.!!! They have no T. Takil. Well, no large ones. I also contacted corollatropicals.ca but Ryan only has see...

Barrie,

It's still kinda cool around these parts. About 6-8 degrees C. Rain and lots of clouds. I just know its cloudy and thought the palms and bananas could use more sunshine. So your saying that just having them in cloudy light is better than artificial light?
I appriciate all you advice.

I looked on ebay but just wanted some input from you all first.

Hey all, Where I live there seems to be a seriouse lack for sunshine. It has been cloudy for about 2 weeks now with an odd sunny break here and there (very usual). Adonidia ,

So it will be a while yet? It's been about 4 weeks, maybe 3. I don't have them burried all the way, you can see the tops of them. I heard as long as they didn't dry out this was ok?
Any advice?

Christmas Palms

I mentioned before I had several Christmas palm seeds planted and incubating. I have then sitting on a nice warm heat source. Has anyone seen the little "greenhouses" they sell at wal-mart or Canadian Tire? The mini ones with the ready to plant soil pucks, anyway, they are in one of those....

Thanks.

Lucky1,

I think I could handle mowing a lawn rather then shoveling tons of snow.
My trachy is about 3 or 4, I was told. I really like it. I have tried to get a bigger one but no one but with no luck...hard to come by larger ones. Botanix has some larger ones so I may have to go there again.

HAHAHa,

A while back I was talking to some people in FLorida about growing palms here...and they asked how I could grow palms in the arctic. So I liked that handle. I live in Southern Ontario, near lake erie. I just thought it was typical of Floridians.
I am just jealous of them!!!!

Barrie, The palm was cut down for travel purpose. My father in law cut all but one stem so he could fit it in a box. The middle spear is still there. The mold is actually sand. I have planted it to see if it grows. If it dies then it was the thought that counted. I will look up the Thrinax floridana...

They don't advertize them on thier website but they are there. I think it was $200.00 and it was at least 8 feet. http://www.broadwaygarde...
