Looks great Barrie! It is suprising how many flowers are still blooming in my yard also. Mild November so far. I just noticed today that my large calla lilies are still blooming, as are my cannas, roses, poppies, geraniums, impatients, carnations, fatsias, lemons, and probably some others I can't th...

Laaz,
your yard looks great. It would be awesome to be able to grow a bismarkia.
I will have to settle for a brahea armata for that blue colour.

I am sure those trachies are geeting quite tall now.
I remember Jan 2004 and I wish we had got the snow for insulation.
We went down to -9C and just a cold cold night.

Barrie, What do you think about this yucca as far as being a long term one here?
I now have quite a few differnet yuccas but non e of these. I just felt it was a gamble with our wet winters.

I have one about the same size however I have not planted it outside yet. I need to find a spot. It is very slow growing for me. Another reason I haven't planted it outside. I was hoping by keeping it inside , it would grow faster. No such luck.

Cacti Blooms
Barrie,
What if anything do you use for winter protection for your cacti?
I have some that I am not sure what to do to protect them from our winter rains.
I have them planted against the house under a soffit but I am not sure this will be enough.

this palm species does not like to be transplanted. They are very sensitive to root damage. I have one in my yard and it is now going on to it's 4th winter in the ground. Very hardy species but it does not like the winter rains so I put a rain cover over mine during our wet season.

the palms look great. What protection have you used on your CIDP and washy?
Your washie looks like it is in the shade, perhaps that is why you didn't get many fronds?

Good to see they have survived. By the end of summer they will look a lot better with more fronds.
Y. recurvs are easily the fasted and best suited trunking yucca for this climate. Mine has grown incredible fast in two years having branched out already.

I don't know if it is global warming or not but I haven't had a zone 8a winter in a long time, (at least 8 years and counting).
Half my years are zone 8b and the other 9a. I believe we are having global warming when I finally see a zone 9b.
Now that would be nice.

A lot of those species can handle the kind of heat you get. You just have to be slowly climatize the palms.
They look great though. Many species you have I have never seen unless it was in a picture.

That is surprising to me. I was told they are very root sensitive and almost impossible to transplant and yet you did it twice with this one.
That is encouraging because I may have to move mine one day.

Barrie,
Are the roots on an edulis as sensitive as armata?
When I planted my armata I was very careful not to disturb the roots. It made out fine but I have heard you can kill an armata during transplanting or even removing it from a pot.

Barrie,
Nice looking palm. Did you get it from Tropi-Cole?
Are you planning any winter protection?
You will have to keep us informed on how it does at your place.
I have been too scared to buy one however my brahea armata seems to be able to handle our weather without any problems.
