Southern magnolia dropping most leaves. What to do?
Zone 6 southern indiana. My magnolia has been in the ground four years now. This year I decided to not use a burlap windscreen over the winter as I have done for the last few years, and of course, we ended up having the worst winter in decades. As of today, about 90% of the leaves are completely bro...

My basjoos finally fruited this year! 6 years old, mulched during winter. <a href="http://s115.photobucket.com/albums/n290/6oclock/?action=view¤t=image.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n290/6oclock/image.jpg" border="0&quo...

Im right there with you guys on the ridiculous heat index. I don't have any numbers to post, but I can certainly say that I haven't felt heat this miserable in a long time. AC can't keep up at my store, and the minute you step outside it just feels gross, so humid that it almost makes you feel a lit...

Thanks for the replies everyone! Mimosa tree?
We've been shopping around for a couple tropical looking trees to plant in our front yard, and my mom suggested a Mimosa tree. I'd never heard of this tree before, but come to find out, many of the older folks around here remember them as being quite common years ago, but you rarely see them this fa...

Come to find out: azaleas are completely hardy here as well. I didn't know this at first, when I brought the 2 plants back from Virginia Beach, because the azaleas here aren't nearly as impressive as the ones I saw down south, where they grow into huge bushes. I'd love to be able to get mine to grow...

What zone am I really in?
Hello folks... This is something that really doesn't matter in the long run, but still intrigues me... The older US zone map that has been in effect for the last 20 years or so shows my location as right on the zone 5b/6a border, yet the newest zone map released by the arborday.org in the early 2000...

Question about palms in zone 6a...
I live in zone 6a southern Indiana. I've tried palms for 2 years now with marginal success. What I'd like to do is plant palms that could possibly survive in my climate unprotected (or protected very minimally) once established. Last year I planted two trachy's, a needle and a chinese fan palm. The ...

Oleander?
I've found Oleander plants around 5-6 feet tall for sale at Lowe's and Walmart here in zone 6a southern Indiana this year. Seems odd to me that these places would sell these plants with a 1 year guarantee when they are rated to zone 8a. I'm thinking about trying one. Anyone have any input on these?
