Here's a few pics showing some of the flowers turning into fruits. Looks like I have 4 fruits forming at this point. Tim's pollen was good! <img src=http://i729.photobucket.com/albums/ww298/mnpalms/DSC_0245.jpg> <img src=http://i729.photobucket.com/albums/ww298/mnpalms/DSC_0246.jpg> <img src=http://...

97.7f here currently (6:40CST) and dewpoint is still 81! Looks like you hit the century mark today down there Jim. We are supposed to hit it again tomorrow. 103f was our highest (officially) so far this summer which was a few weeks ago. You are welcome to some of this rain though, more nasty thunder...

Yeah Jim that storm that came through dumped a couple more inches of rain in some spots. It took the temp down to the upper 70s for a little while which was the coolest we have seen at any time 24/7 for the last several days. Low last night was 81! Sun back out and it is now back to 92f (at least he...

Damn Jim, that's awesome! I don't think I have a chance for bananas to flower this year. My big ones got so beat up by hail earlier in the summer. The pups are in better shape and surpassing them. Gotta love the weather though! Our dewpoint right now is 87, no kidding!! Temp is 87f, heat index is 11...

Tim/Jim and others who might be interested: I just about shi@ my pants today!!! It appears that my yucca has at least 4 seed pods (fruits?) growing now!!! I think the pollen...

mnpalms, what if any did you use for a heat source? I use a Thermocube (on at 35f and off at 45f) attached to one string of C7 and one string of C9 clear Xmas lights. Also in the enclosure is a 12.5 watt CFL bulb which is always on. The setup does not burn much power at all. This system is capable ...

Yup, same forecast here Jim. I just hope the severe storms stay to the north though. Don't need the bananas beat up by, and set way back by big hail again! Also I hope the weather holds out long enough for my y. thompsoniana's flowers to accept the pollen I gave it. You are also on my short list of ...

Tim- I received the pollen today, THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!! I owe you! I also sent you a PM. I will be out there tonight pollenating the flowers.... All the flowers have bloomed so I am hoping they are still viable. Many have been falling off the past few days but I'd say about 1/2 of them still seem to...

We have well water. I can't stand city water myself...with all the additives in it. Do you order the milorganite and fish fertilizer? Where from? I looked on the milorganite's website, and see they list ONE distributor in WI (where it originates), and it's quite a distance away....here I thought I ...

Looking great Jim! Trailgaiter- Want your bananas to really fly? Get a big bag of Milorganite (less than $10) and a bottle of concentrated fish fertilizer (thick and stinky). You can not over-use these products since they are organic and non-chemical. Feed the heck out of the bananas. 3x recommended...

Tim- I sent you a PM. Thanks for the offer!!! Yes, slow start this year because of the lousy spring. Though it seems everything is catching up nicely now. The older bananas (basjoos) are being passed up by the pups though. It seems the pups that made it through the winter are growing 5x faster then ...

I've been a little slow to keep this updated. Here's a few more pictures I took several days ago. It is opening flowers now and looks better and better every day. The flower stalk is over 5 feet in length now. I'll post more up to date pics this weekend also. <img src=http://i729.photobucket.com/alb...

Lookin good Jim! (as usual) We are getting TONS of rain here too. Still it seems many things are a good 2 weeks behind last year's pace though, at least at my place, due to the long and dragged out spring we have had. Strangely my vegetables are about the only things ahead of last year's pace. I alr...

Yucca Thompsoniana Flowering in Minnesota 4b/5a
Here are some early pictures of the flower stalk my y. thompsoniana is producing. For those that don't know, I planted this yucca about 15 months ago here in MN in a corner of my trachy bed. It came from a seller in Vegas who stated it was taken from the wild. Vegas? I thought this species grows wil...

Just so you know, it wasn't me who stripped it from the desert in the Vegas area... I bought it through the internet early last spring and the seller did indicate that it was not nursery grown, rather taken from the wild. He was located in Vegas so I assumed that's where it grew originally. I wish h...

Wxman and Jim- I'd keep an eye on this Tuesday night into Wednesday storm. Latest I saw shows significant snow accumulations just to my south and on to the east. Like 6 to 9 inches!
