I didn't want to go into a lot of detail, but I have pretty much everything covered except the 'sexual abuse' angle and I am working on that. I was kept in the dark by my brother and his wife as to Steph's history so that her con job worked and Chris and I took her and Brooke, her 3 yr old, off of t...

Thanks Kent. I appreciate the advice. Have you ever tried yours outside in the shade on the patio?

I was thinking of doing this for the spring, summer and fall, then overwintering it in my palm shelter. In the shelter the temps should never go below 23*F and I use diffused natural light.

Papaya is great as a dried fruit.

If I can grow them inside for 3-4 months, I just may have a chance to fruit them. I am going to have to look for a papaya from the coolest climate.

Help IDing Rhapis palm

I picked this one up at Rona. It was the only one in stock. It cost $22. I am not sure if it is R. humulis or R. excelsa. They are the most common varieties and I doubt that Rona would carry an uncommon palm. Please help me ID it. http://www.postimage.org/aV1au_KS.jpg http://www.postimage.org/aV1avh...

I don't know. If your water is hard, you can expect them to clog up and need to be soaked in CLR. I would think that if you keep the water pressure down to where it the water is just barely pushed out the mister and you use a fine screen to keep solids out of the inlet hose & misters they should...

Those clips for holding xmas lights to the eavestrough usually make sure that the lights are pointed down. 4 lb of hay wire should keep the misters in the clips.

Most of the fascia is backed by either 1 x 6 in older houses like mine or by the the 2 x 4 roof joists. That is strong enough to hold the conduit and the mister. You could use metal electrical conduit to attach the hose and sprayers. You can bend conduit to fit. Use 'right angle triangle' brackets made out of 2" x 2" to hold the electrical conduit near eavestrough level. Or you could hang the conduit from the fascia. If you like, PM me with pics of...

Thanks for the offer Barrie. Your post told me all that I wanted to know.

The only spot in Alberta that I thought had a chance of being zone 4 was the South West corner. I don't really need to know the exact zone lines. One half a zone doesn't make much difference when it is -30.

Ditto for Edmonton. The recycle depot usually has a number of 1 gal to 5 gal pots. But if the stuff goes into the waste bins you are not supposed to scavenge, Unless you are St. Vincent de Paul and similar societies that provide household goods to people who have lost everything.
