I didn't want to go into a lot of detail, but I have pretty much everything covered except the 'sexual abuse' angle and I am working on that. I was kept in the dark by my brother and his wife as to Steph's history so that her con job worked and Chris and I took her and Brooke, her 3 yr old, off of t...

Thanks Barb; I have begun to distance myself from my 3 yr old G. niece as it is impossible to ensure that I am never alone with her. Her mother ignores her and the 3 of us are frequently in the house together which causes the little girl to follow me around. After 36 hours with her mother and withou...

Hey Cowtown; Welcome to the forum. Now there are 3 of us from Alberta. Is the Trachy near a forced air heat vent? Does the water pour out the bottom of the pot immediately and does the dish the pot is sitting in have standing water in it? IF hot dry air is flowing over the pot you could be overheati...

Thanks. She has only been with us since mid November. It just seems like years. Her mother should have applied some tough love when she was 10 years old or younger. Not when she is 25. Chris, the babysitter and I have turned her spoilt miserable bitch 3 year old daughter into a slightly difficult ch...

It is not that cold for some people. When she knew it was smoke outside or get out, my (expletive deleted) niece would go stand by the dryer vent and smoke. That included when it was -38*C. 14 days until she is gone. It is forecast to stay around -10*C to +5*C for high temperatures through the end o...

Help IDing Rhapis palm
I picked this one up at Rona. It was the only one in stock. It cost $22. I am not sure if it is R. humulis or R. excelsa. They are the most common varieties and I doubt that Rona would carry an uncommon palm. Please help me ID it. http://www.postimage.org/aV1au_KS.jpg http://www.postimage.org/aV1avh...

Barrie; Congrats to your wife. It isn't easy. It took me 33 years to quit. Barb; Up until I threw the pack in the garbage can Dec 12/98, there was no way that I could quit. I don't want to guess how many times I tried to quit- cold turkey, gradually, nicarette, group. After going through all that he...

Fixing it by yourself was the easiest way. Most contractors including the electrician would screw around until you were ready to shoot them; blaming each other, etc. If it has been over a year I doubt that you can do anything legally. If the contractor hired the electrician, the contractor is respon...

The worst seems over. It got down to -36*C/-32*F with windchills of about -51 in the downtown area and probably 2 degrees cooler here at home. Zone 3a it is. I would like to thank those in the lower mainland that sacrificed themselves to the snow god so that we could have enough wind to blow the arc...

Hi Barb; After putting my magnifying glass to a BC road map and the Zone map, I can make an uneducated guess. Salmon Arm through Armstrong are Zone 6a and 6b. You are a little south of that and would be in Zone 3a  or maybe 5b. Barrie; I stand corrected. The area surrounding Edmonton is 2a and...

The shelter held up well in temps as low as -36*C with windchills between -40 and -50. The inside temp got down to -4.9*C It seems like the worst is over. I will probably be able to check the palms in a couple of weeks as the forecast shows that we are supposed to get to freezing about that time. Al...

Most of the fascia is backed by either 1 x 6 in older houses like mine or by the the 2 x 4 roof joists. That is strong enough to hold the conduit and the mister. On the floor might work but you are not going to get as much cool. If your eavestrough is well attached you could just clip the hose and m...

It has warmed up to -31*C and I have been out trying to plug my vehicle in. The frigging wind cut right through my clothes. I couldn't get the plug cover off of the block heater cord. It does seem like a pity that we have a tendency to destroy everything. Edmonton is one of the rare exceptions. Not because they are recycle friendly, but because they almost ran out of dump space. Edmonton's arrogant attitude toward the surrounding communities resulted in the communities retaliatin...

So far our winter has been a zone 5b. That has changed this evening(-28*C and w/c -48*C right now) and will change further by Thursday when the forecast low of -35*C has come and gone. I am pleased to note that with the foam strip sealing the shelter and the second Heat Cable the temp in the shelter...
