Here is an update of the close to death TRex. I picked out a sheltered location and planted it out early spring and it has made a good recovery. First photo is from march, second from yesterday.

Very nice, Jim. Your smaller Tesan seedlings seems to be at the same stage or slightly ahead of mine, when did you germinate them? Im also curious if you've found them hardier than other trachycarpus? I cannot say they are hardier but I think it is unfair to judge such small plants..... I think the...

not going to pot them up, but I might move some seedlings as they are too close together. I didnt really expect that many to survive. A nice problem to have. Maybe talk some of your neighbors into accepting thinned out seedlings. Just think what that would look like in a few years...a whole neighbo...

Tough indeed. Presume the seeds were scattered in spring last year? Are you going to pot them up? Barb Yeah I just spread the seeds in an area directly into the ground last spring. Im not going to pot them up, but I might move some seedlings as they are too close together. I didnt really expect tha...

Bulgarian seedlings after the winter

As an experiment I decided to sow a few thusands Trachycarpus Fortunei Bulgaria seeds into the ground in two different patches. One were left completly unprotected while the other got a blanket thrown over it. The unprotected patch was however partly sheltered from winds from the west and that seems...

They seem to be quite hard to find, at least where I live, but I found mine on ebay.

These are very inspiring pictures for me who live in a zone where palms cant survive most winters without protection. My fortunei were trunk cut after last winter and was pushing out new growth, unfortunately it rotted away after pushing up two new leaves, so make sure you protect your trunk cut pal...

It looks a bit worse now than from the first picture, dark green areas are forming like on the second picture. Good news is that the temperatures seems to stay above freezing for a few days now, so im gonna take it outside for a bit. Maybe that will help.

I'm not sure what the problem is. Someone from New Jersey sent me this small offset in fall 2010 and I kept in inside my garage over winter and it did fine. I planted it out in 2011 as this: and my the end of the season it looked like this.........so watch out! Wow, that is some nice growth there. ...

These things are pretty tough... This is how i get rid of the spider mites: Bring it to the bath rub, and use the shower head (handheld), or a spray bottle with a decent adjustable stream. Set the sprayer in between "jet" and "mist". Spray the hell out of the leaves. Take a damp...

Save this Tetrapanax Papyrifer Rex

I got a Tetrapanax Papyrifer Rex which is currently sitting in pot and kept indoor. I plan to plant it outside at spring in 2-3 months but im not sure if it will stay alive that long. It was infested by white spider mites but they should be gone now I think, its really hard to see clearly because of...

I spent some time today to inspect my palms and it seems only a few of them had been invaded by the bugs, but when I noticed some on my 3-4 years old Princeps I got pissed. So I started by washing all of my indoor palms good with water and those with bugs I used soap water and a towel to clean caref...

Drying leaves

I have a problem with some of my Trachycarpus seedlings which I keep at the windowsill during the winter. The tips of the fronds seems to dry up while remaining green. My guess is that its caused by either under or over watering which has resulted in root problems, but it could also be dry air. Has ...
